Scott Kato, Thermal Batteries, California

Scott Kato, who has been in the industry for 5 years, is a Manager of Controls and Software at Antora Energy.

Why is clean energy important to you? I want to be part of the solution to our growing energy needs while ensuring that these solutions have positive impacts, not negative ones. I hope to help tip the scales towards a better environment.

What's a memorable clean energy project you’ve worked on? I helped build, start up, and turn on for the first time a renewable natural gas project that converted food waste and sewage into usable biogas. This waste, which otherwise would have led to greater carbon emissions in landfills, was instead converted into renewable energy.

What did you do prior to working in clean energy? Why did you transition to the clean energy industry? Previously, I worked as a design engineer and field engineer for an oil & gas and power generation company. I transitioned due to my realization of the growing clean energy field and the impacts that clean energy deployment would have on the environment.

What do you wish more people knew about the clean energy industry? The opportunities are growing in the clean energy industry, it's a different working environment now compared to five or ten years ago. When I graduated university, jobs in the clean energy industry were scarce; now there are plenty of opportunities.
